TARIL Secures Rs 533.3 Mn PGCIL Contract for 397 MVA HVDC Converter Transformer

Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) has secured an order worth Rs 533.3 million from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). The scope includes the repair, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 397 MVA HVDC Converter Transformer, with delivery scheduled in the next financial year.

This order marks a significant milestone for TARIL, making it the first Indian-origin private sector manufacturer to secure a contract in the technologically advanced HVDC converter transformer segment. With this development, TARIL joins a limited group of global manufacturers capable of executing complex HVDC transformer projects.

The contract underscores TARIL’s engineering capabilities and strengthens its position in a specialised area of India’s transmission ecosystem, where precision, reliability, and advanced technology are essential. The order also comes as India accelerates the expansion of its transmission infrastructure to support renewable energy integration, enhance grid stability, and enable long-distance, high-capacity power transfer.

Mukul P. Srivastava, CEO, Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL), said, “Securing this order from Power Grid Corporation of India is an important achievement for TARIL and a strong endorsement of our technical capabilities. Entering the global league of HVDC converter transformer segment represents a strategic step forward for us, aligning with the nation’s broader ‘Make in India’ vision to strengthen indigenous manufacturing in advanced power technologies. This opportunity enhances our presence in a high-growth, high-technology space and supports our long-term plan to expand our offerings in the HVDC segment as demand continues to rise.”

India’s HVDC market is witnessing strong growth driven by large-scale renewable energy deployment, including offshore wind targets of 30 GW by 2030, expansion of the Green Energy Corridor, interconnection of asynchronous grids, and emerging cross-border transmission projects. Increased adoption of advanced technologies such as Voltage Source Converter (VSC) systems is further boosting sector demand. This order strengthens TARIL’s strategic position in a high-value segment shaping the next phase of India’s power-grid development.
