Stera Engineering, part of Stera Technologies of Finland and specializing in serial production of mechanical assemblies, has expanded its operations in the country by inaugurating a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Chennai. The company set up a production facility in India last year. It specialises in manufacturing passenger boarding bridges for airports and cabinets and enclosures for electronics and telecommunications.

The size of the new Stera Engineering factory will be about 500 00 sq. ft and employs at the moment 60 people which is likely to increase up to 120 people within next year.

The Stera Group intends to further expand its activities in Indian market and this new facility creates many new opportunities with existing and futures new customers. Many existing customers are having footprint in Indian market and by expanding operations, the Stera Group ensures local presence for global customers.

Stera Technologies Oy was founded in October 2007, when three Finnish sheet metal companies - Elektromet Yhtiot Oy, Hihra Oy, and Levyosa Oy - were merged. Stera has six factories in Finland, one factory in Estonia and one in India. The total amount of employees is 550 people, the total production area is 15 acres and annual turnover is about 100 million USD.
