SSAB to unveil lightweight tipper solutions at Bauma Conexpo India

Delhi, December 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ – SSAB India, the Indian subsidiary of market-leading Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB, is to showcase a scaled-down sample of its latest lightweight tipper truck at the upcoming Bauma Conexpo, to be held from December 12-15 in Delhi.

India's tipper market is one of the world's largest and the truck industry is significant to the country's economy, but so far it has proved difficult to find a cost-effective solution to match supply with demand.

SSAB's Hardox material provides end users a fast and flexible on-site solution. The outstanding weldability and workshop-friendly properties of Hardox allow it to be integrated easily into repair regimes, keeping production up and running.

Hardox cuts down on weight and extends the service life of steel structures compared with regular steel. Its extreme wear resistance is key to its ability to withstand heavy impact without permanent deformation or cracking. The combination of hardness and toughness also allows for new innovative ways of designing steel structures and components, giving the products better performance and longer service life.

"For the Hardox lightweight tipper project, SSAB has managed to decrease the weight by two tons and expand the payload by one cubic meter for our customers," says Sharad Rastogi, Director SSAB India.

A lighter dumpster container made of Hardox wear plate means an increased load capacity of at least 10-20%, and as a bonus, 100% of Hardox steel can be recycled at the end of its lifetime without the loss of its properties or performance. What this translates to for end users is greater sustainability and far better return on investment.

Tipper trucks are gaining popularity in India as they reduce unloading costs and simplify the unloading process. To meet the country's evolving requirements, SSAB has therefore introduced a new tipper design which moves away from the box-shaped tipper trend and more towards a U-shaped tipper that offers a complete solution including hydraulics.

Furthermore, by using a local, SSAB-trained manufacturer for tipper assembly, the company has managed to localize manufacturing to keep costs down, which is better for end users, while the experience and expertise of the company's dedicated Knowledge Service Center and Tech Support teams, coupled with local stock availability throughout India ensures specialists can address customer needs even at short notice.
