Srinivas Satya joins Tata Electronics to drive semiconductor industry ambitions

Srinivas Satya, former country president of the semiconductor products group at Applied Materials, has recently joined Tata Electronics as the Chief Supply Chain Officer and President of the components business, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Satya commenced his role at Tata Electronics on January 13, driven by his belief in the company's capability to shape the semiconductor industry comprehensively. The unique position of the Tata group, he believes, makes it well-suited to undertake such an ambitious endeavour.

Applied Materials acknowledged Satya's departure and announced that Satheesh Kuppurao, Vice President of Business Development and Growth, would serve as the interim Country President.

In his new position at Tata Electronics, Satya will directly report to Randhir Thakur, the CEO appointed in April of the previous year. Thakur's background as the former President of Intel Foundry Services, with over five years at Intel, signals Tata's serious commitment to making a significant impact in the semiconductor and electronics sector.

Thakur, who was once the Executive Vice President of the Silicon Systems Group (SSG) at Applied Materials, had previously identified Satya as the India country president in 2015. Thakur had expressed confidence that Satya would play a crucial role in identifying key revenue opportunities and ensuring sustained growth for the company in the country.

Satya's appointment at Tata Electronics follows closely on the heels of the company's commitment to invest Rs 12,082 crore in the establishment of an enclosure manufacturing and mobile phone assembly unit in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. This move was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the Global Investors Meet (GIM). In November of the previous year, ET had reported Tata Electronics' plans to nearly double its capacity at the iPhone casing facility, making it a notable player as the sole Indian vendor to Apple.
