Sphoorti Machine Tools Pvt Ltd has established itself as a leading manufacturer of tool holders, catering to global CNC lathe and machining center markets with more than half of its turnover coming from exports. The company is focusing on automation, digitalisation, and efficiency improvements while expanding its product range to serve industries such as automotive, defence, aerospace, and electronics. In this interview, R K Purohit, Managing Director, Sphoorti Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, reaffirms the company’s vision of becoming a major global player in tool holders.
How is Sphoorti Machine Tools contributing to the manufacturing and machine tools sectors?
Sphoorti Machine Tools is a pioneer in the manufacture of tool holders for all types of tool turrets across global brands of CNC lathes, CNC turning centers, and CNC turn-mill centers. Our products serve as the critical bridge between cutting tools and machine turrets, enabling precision machining and optimum results.
Practically every industry using CNC machines is our customer. However, most of our primary business comes from machine tool builders, complemented by a strong distribution network that ensures our tool holders reach end-users worldwide. Backed by a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility equipped with precision machines from Hermle, Mazak, DMG MORI, Hardinge, and Zoller, we ensure world-class quality in every product.
How do you view the current state of the Indian manufacturing and machine tools industries, and what opportunities do you see in domestic and export markets?
The tool holder business is closely linked to the evolution of turret designs in the machine tool industry, and we continuously adapt to these trends. From simple holders for generic CNC lathes to advanced configurations such as VDI, BMT, VTP, and PSC (CAPTO-compatible), we cover the entire spectrum, offering both static and live/driven holders.
India offers immense potential, as it readily adopts global technological advancements in CNC machining. On the international front, Sphoorti has reached most major CNC markets worldwide, and exports now account for over 50% of our annual turnover. This validates our products’ acceptance in global markets.
What factors are driving the demand for your products, and what are Sphoorti’s key USPs?
The demand is simple to explain — satisfied customers keep coming back. Our reputation for world-class quality combined with competitive pricing has driven strong growth. To further strengthen customer confidence, we are working on stocking most of our products off-the-shelf to ensure faster delivery and prevent delays in customer operations.
Our biggest USP lies in our wide product range compatible with any CNC machine, ease of interchangeability, and a customer-first approach that ensures we remain accessible and responsive across geographies.
The automotive sector is a major user of machine tools. How is Sphoorti tapping this sector, and what role does EV growth play?
The auto industry forms the backbone of the machine tool business, accounting for a significant share of demand. Our B2B business model is strongly routed through machine tool builders, while B2C engagement happens through sales partners, key accounts, and global stockists.
The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) has created additional visibility for us, but it has not reduced opportunities in the traditional auto segment. In fact, both conventional and EV-related manufacturing are growing simultaneously, driven by the rising mobility needs of rural, semi-urban, and urban India.
Beyond automotive, how do you plan to serve other sectors such as railways, defence, and electronics?
These sectors require a different approach, often involving tenders, approvals, and local partnerships. For us, they represent secondary yet significant business avenues, supported by our dealer network that maintains close engagement with such industries.
Importantly, Sphoorti aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India programs. This gives PSU units, DRDO, CSIR labs, ordnance factories, and space research organisations the confidence to rely on indigenous products rather than imported ones. Our aim is to reinforce this trust further.
AI, automation, and sustainability are redefining industries globally. How is Sphoorti embracing these trends?
Automation and digitalisation are no longer optional — they are essential for staying competitive. All our CNC machines are equipped with HMIs, enabling better monitoring, reduced errors, and improved efficiency.
We are also enhancing our digital presence, ensuring that our products and capabilities are visible not just physically but across digital platforms, helping us reach the global industrial community. Sustainability and efficiency remain at the core of our operations as we continue to innovate.
What are your growth plans for the coming years?
FY25 has been extremely encouraging, and we are operating at full throttle to meet the rising demand from machine tool builders, end-users, and sales partners. Our trajectory is not just about expansion, but about optimisation across machines, equipment, vendors, infrastructure, and most importantly, our people.
We believe that while systems and resources contribute to growth, it is our dedicated workforce that drives long-term success. Together, we are determined to establish Sphoorti as a major global player in tool holders.
Will Sphoorti be showcasing at EMO Hannover 2025? What are your plans for the event?
Yes, EMO Hannover has always been a special platform for us, ever since our debut as an exhibitor in 2013. Our philosophy has been simple: if we can export to Germany, we can export anywhere.
At EMO 2025, we will showcase our entire product range along with exciting new launches, including the Angular Head for Machining Centers, Slotting Head, Gear Hobber, and PSC (CAPTO-compatible) holders in slotted, VDI, and BMT configurations — available in both static and live/driven versions. With this, Sphoorti will perhaps offer one of the largest ranges of tool holders globally, meeting the needs of our customers comprehensively.
Our message to visitors is straightforward: “Drop in at Sphoorti stall E-58, Hall 4 — your search for tool holders will end here.”
