Schneider Electric to automate Mumbai’s Bhandup water treatment plant

Schneider Electric has secured a contract to automate the Bhandup water treatment plant in Mumbai, which processes 2,000 Million Litres per Day (MLD) of water. The initiative aligns with the Maharashtra government’s mission to ensure potable water access for 22 million residents.

The automation will leverage Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure solutions, including the EcoStruxure Process Expert M580-EPA Automation platform, Altivar Process Drives, PRISMA LV panel boards, power quality solutions, Easergy relays, transformers, MV switchboards, and UPS systems.

Deepak Sharma, Zone President - Greater India and MD & CEO of Schneider Electric India, highlighted the company’s commitment to digital innovation in water management, emphasising automation's role in tackling India’s water challenges and promoting sustainability.
This upgrade will make the Bhandup facility a critical part of India’s largest single water treatment complex, with a total capacity of 4,500 MLD. It will also integrate seamlessly with Schneider Electric’s existing Water Command and Control Centre.

Yogen Lal, CEO, Welspun Enterprises  remarked that the collaboration with Schneider Electric will boost operational efficiency and reliability, marking a significant milestone in enhancing water accessibility in Mumbai.
