Schneider Electric organized the ground breaking ceremony for its new factory Prospace Industrial Park in Kolkata. With the investment of Rs 140 crore the state-of-the-art factory aims strengthen the capacity in producing products such as Vacuum Interrupters (VI).

Schneider Electric inaugurates new factory at Prospace Industrial Park, Kolkata

Energy management and next-gen automation company, Schneider Electric, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony of its new manufacturing plant at Prospace Industrial Park in Kolkata, West Bengal. Covering an area of nine acres, this new facility will involve an investment of Rs 140 crores. Schneider Electric aims to accelerate and significantly grow its capacity in producing products such as Vacuum Interrupters (VI) and strengthen its power systems vertical through this new factory. This new facility is planned to be completed by February 2024, with the manufacturing operations expected to start in the second quarter of the next financial year.

Deepak Sharma, Zone President (Designate), Greater India, Schneider Electric and MD and CEO SEIPL (Designate), said, “Today marks a momentous occasion for the Schneider Electric family. This upcoming world-class factory in Kolkata is aimed at accelerating our commitment to ‘Make in India’. We will be investing approximately Rs 140 crores for setting up this new facility which will enable economic development and job creation in the state. With 60 years of presence in India, we will continue to contribute actively towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat by manufacturing in India for India and for the globe. Our efforts are aimed at cementing India’s position as a world leader in exports and manufacturing. I thank the government of India and West Bengal for their support.”

Nitin Bakshi, Vice President, Global Supply Chain- India, MEA, SAM & Pacific, Schneider Electric added, “The idea behind the development of this factory is to strengthen India’s growing position as a global force in manufacturing and exports. This upcoming factory will bind the power of India’s talent and vision of self-reliance into a global phenomenon. This new facility will export 50 per cent of the peak volume capacity, meeting the need of customers in India and across the world. Our new age digital technologies will prove to be a game changer in the energy management industry for years to come.”

Schneider Electric aims to strive for excellence in technology and sustainability to meet the dynamically changing needs of its customers and partners. In December 2022, the company announced the consolidation of six of its existing factories to launch one of its largest smart factories, globally, in Bengaluru. In September 2022, it announced the groundbreaking of a new smart factory in Hyderabad which upon completion will be the second smart factory in the city. Schneider Electric’s existing smart factory in Hyderabad has been recognised as an Advanced Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum.
