RIL unveils ambitious new energy ventures

This article provides an overview of Reliance Industries Limited's (RIL) New Energy Business initiatives, as disclosed in the Chairman's address by Mukesh Ambani during the 46th Annual General Meeting held on August 28, 2023.

Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Manufacturing Complex: RIL is committed to the swift implementation of the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Manufacturing Complex in Jamnagar.

Solar PV Manufacturing Ecosystem: RIL's primary focus is on establishing a comprehensive Solar PV manufacturing ecosystem. This will be among the world's largest and most competitive Solar giga factories, transforming sand into Solar PV modules. The complex in Jamnagar will encompass the production of PV modules, cells, wafers, ingots, polysilicon, and glass at a single location, with the goal of being operational in phases by the end of 2025.

Cost-Efficient Wind Power Generation: RIL is taking steps to achieve cost-effective Wind Power generation at a giga scale. A pivotal aspect is the in-house manufacturing of carbon fiber, reducing the cost of wind turbine production. The company aims to enable the installation of at least 100 GW of renewable energy generation by 2030.

Battery Giga Factory: By 2026, RIL will establish a Battery giga factory capable of producing battery chemicals, cells, packs, and containerised energy storage solutions. It will also include a Battery Recycling facility. The initial focus will be on LFP chemistry, known for its safety and cost-effectiveness, with the aim of delivering world-leading lifecycle costs. Reliance New Energy Battery Storage  . is recognised under MHI's PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell Manufacturing.

Sodium-Ion Battery Technology: Simultaneously, RIL is working on the commercialisation of sodium-ion battery technology. The goal is to industrialise sodium-ion cell production at the megawatt level by 2025, followed by scaling up to the giga scale.

Green Hydrogen: Progress is being made in the realm of Green Hydrogen. RIL has addressed the critical components of cost-competitive Green Hydrogen, namely the cost of Renewable Power generation and electrolyser installation costs for giga-scale deployment. The integrated Solar and Wind energy storage manufacturing ecosystem is expected to deliver cost-efficient Renewable Power. Additionally, RIL has developed a roadmap to achieve targeted electrolyser costs for Green Hydrogen production. The company plans to demonstrate this at the MW scale in collaboration with technology partners and establish a giga-scale electrolyser manufacturing facility. This will facilitate large-scale Green Hydrogen production in Jamnagar, catering to domestic and international markets, including Green Ammonia and Green Methanol production.

In conclusion, RIL is committed to deploying Rs 750 billion to build its New Energy manufacturing ecosystem, facilitating giga-scale production for continuous power supply and Green Hydrogen production, which will serve various sectors such as green chemicals manufacturing and green mobility.
