Mumbai, September 2013: Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA), the 800-member strong apex association of electrical equipment manufacturing industry, has announced the appointment of Mr Raj Eswaran as the new President for the year 2013-14.

Mr Raj Eswaran is Managing Director of Easun Reyrolle Ltd. He has been also associated with Easun Products of India Pvt Ltd for the last 15 years, and is currently the Director in EHV Cables and Substation Division. Mr Eswaran is a BE in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and has done his Masters in Business Administration from the London Business School.

On his appointment, Mr Raj Eswaran, said, "I feel honored to be appointed as the President of IEEMA, one of India's largest and most respected industry associations. We at IEEMA are extremely proud to be a body representing the over INR 1.30 lakh crore Indian electrical equipment manufacturing industry which provides direct and indirect employment to over 1.5 million people. The electrical industry is not only of vital importance to the economy, but of strategic importance to the nation."

Commenting on the current status of the Indian electrical equipment industry, Mr Eswaran said, "The ongoing economic slowdown and project execution delays in power projects have hit the power equipment industry hard over the past two years. But, we are quite optimistic that the recent launch of the Indian Electrical Equipment Industry Mission Plan 2012-2022 by the Government and the thrust being given by IEEMA on boosting exports can help the industry overcome the current challenging times by more optimal utilization of built-up capacities."

On the forthcoming ELECRAMA-2014 expo, Mr Eswaran said, "We expect the event to be even more robust in terms of experience, ambience, context and commerce. In order to provide a major fillip to electrical equipment exports, particularly, at a time when domestic demand has been subdued, we are focussing on the theme "Go Global" for ELECRAMA-2014, which is aimed at tapping vast opportunities, especially, in the overseas markets."

IEEMA is a 65-year-old Industry Association representing the Indian electrical, industrial electronics and allied equipment industry. IEEMA has over 800 members with a combined annual turnover over US$25 billion. IEEMA is consulted for policy formulation as the industry-government interface, and evolves product standards alongside India's standards setting body the BIS.

IEEMA publishes statistics pertaining to trade and growth, export promotion, raw material price indices etc. IEEMA facilitates industry - user interactions through international technical conferences, roundtables and training/tutorials sessions, and the monthly publication IEEMA Journal.
