Primus Partners, ASSOCHAM spotlight AI in manufacturing at Odisha Conclave

Bhubaneswar (Odisha)

The ASSOCHAM–Odisha State Development Council, in partnership with strategy advisory firm Primus Partners, launched a landmark report titled “AI-Driven Manufacturing: Innovation, Efficiency & Sustainable Growth” during the Odisha Manufacturing Conclave 2025.

The report offers a comprehensive assessment of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionising manufacturing both in India and globally—enhancing productivity, operational efficiency, sustainability, and resilience across vital sectors such as steel, mining, green energy, logistics, and infrastructure.

Key highlights of the report are:
  • Sectoral shift: Detailed case studies from Odisha and other regions illustrating AI’s role in predictive maintenance, quality assurance, smart logistics, and intelligent automation.
  • Odisha leads the way: The state’s AI-first initiatives, including the Odisha AI Policy 2025 and the Odisha AI Mission, position it as a national example of industrial AI adoption.
  • Global edge via ESG: AI facilitates responsible manufacturing by reducing emissions, optimising energy use, and ensuring compliance with regulatory norms.
  • Collaborative ecosystem: The report underscores the need for strengthened cooperation between government, industry, academia, and start-ups for scalable and ethical AI implementation.
  • Future-ready talent: Emphasis on AI-integrated skill development and capacity building, particularly in MSME clusters and technical training institutes.

The Odisha Manufacturing Conclave 2025 served as the official venue for the report’s release, convening senior government functionaries, industry stalwarts, policy analysts, innovators, and academic institutions. The conclave enabled strategic discussion on India’s preparedness for AI-led industrial evolution, with Odisha highlighted as a key enabler of intelligent, inclusive, and sustainable manufacturing.

“AI is not merely enhancing manufacturing—it is redefining it. Globally, AI-enabled plants have recorded productivity improvements of up to 40 per cent and defect detection rates as high as 90 per cent. With 41.2 MTPA steel capacity and 55 per cent of India’s iron ore output, Odisha is uniquely placed to lead India’s Industry 4.0 transition. This report outlines how the state can champion innovation while advancing sustainability, positioning ‘Made in India’ for global success,” stated Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, Chairman, Odisha State Development Council, ASSOCHAM.

Kanishk Maheshwari, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Primus Partners, noted, “Artificial Intelligence is rapidly altering global manufacturing dynamics, with more than 80 per cent of manufacturers already deploying AI across their operations. AI has demonstrated potential to reduce defects by 66 per cent, lower material costs by 12.5 per cent, and accelerate production cycles by 20 per cent. Odisha’s active AI policy and industrial pilots position it as a national front-runner. This report provides a practical roadmap to build globally competitive, ESG-aligned manufacturing hubs, particularly benefiting MSMEs through skilling, infrastructure, and innovation partnerships.”

As India navigates the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Odisha’s robust digital outlook, proactive governance, and industrial strengths position it to define the next era of smart manufacturing. The report aims to guide policymakers, businesses, and institutions towards creating a resilient, tech-enabled, and globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem.
