Piyush Goyal optimistic about India's $2 tn export goal by 2030

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that India will successfully achieve its ambitious $2 trillion export target by 2030, despite facing geopolitical challenges and inflationary pressures. Speaking at the inauguration of Patsan Bhavan in New Town, Kolkata, housing the Jute Commissioner's office, and the headquarters of Jute Corporation of India and National Jute Board, Goyal acknowledged the complexities of the global situation.

He pointed to factors such as the Ukraine war, the Israel conflict, and Red Sea-related issues affecting international trade. Goyal acknowledged the steps taken, including restrictions to address low food grain production and domestic inflation. Despite these challenges, he emphasised that India aims to boost its exports, targeting USD 2 trillion by 2030, a significant increase from the current USD 770-775 billion.

Highlighting the potential of the jute industry, Goyal emphasised the need for collaborative efforts from the jute sector and support from both the Central and state governments to achieve new milestones. Holding additional portfolios in textiles, consumer affairs, food, and public distribution, Goyal urged industry players to contribute to this growth.

He encouraged the jute sector to showcase its products at Bharat Tex 2024, the world's largest textiles event scheduled from February 26-29 in New Delhi, emphasising the importance of participation.

Goyal also took the opportunity to underscore the achievements of the central government and appealed to the people of West Bengal for their support in the upcoming general elections.
