Pepperl+Fuchs shows innovative thin client solution at Hannover Messe 2016

Pepperl+Fuchs has on display at Hannover Messe trade fair an innovative smart thin client solution VisuNet RM GXP with new RM Shell 4.1, to meet all the challenges of Industry 4.0.

Solutions for Industry 4.0 must allow Pepperl+Fuchs direct horizontal and vertical access to information from the production system. In addition to communication within the production process, this enables access across all hierarchical levels, right down to the sensor. What exactly this means will be demonstrated by the company at the Hannover Messe trade fair using a smart thin client-based remote monitor with RM Shell 4.1 firmware.

The Internet of Things offers a wide range of new opportunities that can be used to their fullest advantage with this smart HMI system: It communicates with the process control system or the MES (which can be located in the cloud) and allows convenient control and monitoring of the process plant. The VisuNet GXP can also access sensors via a web browser for the purposes of commissioning, configuration, or maintenance tasks.

A real highlight of the exhibit is the additional VisuNet Control Center software for remote management of smart thin client-based remote monitors. With its IP-based communication, these can be set up, configured, and monitored from a central workstation. Engineers no longer need to be physically present in the hazardous areas or clean room, and this saves time and costs.

With the remote maintenance mechanisms of the VisuNet Control Center, the administrators can connect to each smart remote monitor with RM Shell 4.1. Even from a distance, users can be supported directly on site to correct faults quickly and cost-effectively. The smart VisuNet GXP HMI system with RM Shell 4.1 therefore uses the advantages of Industry 4.0 for the process industry, even in Zone 1 and 21.
