The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), a state-owned entity, inked a significant agreement with Hindalco Industries, establishing a long-term raw material supply for its refinery project in Kansariguda, located in the Rayagada district. The deal, signed in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, accelerates progress on the construction of a two-million ton alumina refinery in Rayagada.

Chief Minister Patnaik hailed this development as a pivotal moment in Odisha's industrial advancement, expressing his vision for the state to become a thriving industrial centre in the East. He urged the people of Rayagada to support the refinery project, emphasising the potential for transformative change in the lives of the local community.

In June, the state government introduced a new long-term mineral linkage policy for industries, facilitated through the Odisha Mining Corporation Limited. Patnaik underscored this policy as a commitment to creating an environment conducive to industrial growth and innovation, positioning Odisha as a magnet for investment. He highlighted the Aditya Aluminum Limited's alumina refinery in Kanshariguda as a greenfield project with an investment of Rs 8,000 crore. The project is expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs and 4,000 indirect employment opportunities.

Industries & MSME Minister PK Deb stressed the importance of community participation in fostering successful industries, emphasising the government's dedication to the development of tribal communities in mineral-rich areas. Joining the virtual MoU signing ceremony, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, lauded Odisha's rapid industrialisation under Chief Minister Patnaik's leadership.
