Mitsubishi Electric boosts AI-Driven manufacturing with strategic stake in HACARUS

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has acquired an equity stake in HACARUS Corporation to enhance their ongoing collaboration in developing artificial intelligence (AI)-based visual inspection systems for the manufacturing sector. This strategic alliance aims to capitalise on the unique strengths of both companies, fostering technological advancements and expanding business opportunities.

The collaboration will harness HACARUS' AI expertise to reinforce Mitsubishi Electric's efforts in creating integrated, automated AI-based visual inspection solutions. The goal is to empower customers to enhance manufacturing quality and productivity. In return, HACARUS stands to benefit from Mitsubishi Electric's extensive sales network in Japan and globally, facilitating broader distribution of its products and services.

HACARUS is recognised for its development of 'HACARUS Check,' a visual inspection solution utilising compact AI technology. The company specialises in integrating AI with various factory automation devices. Mitsubishi Electric introduced 'MELSOFT VIXIO' in December 2023, an AI-based visual inspection software incorporating its proprietary Maisart AI technology. This software aims to automate visual inspection processes, elevate manufacturing quality, and address labor shortages in Japan.

Toshie Takeuchi, Group President of Mitsubishi Electric's Factory Automation Systems Group, emphasised the significance of the partnership in tackling societal challenges. "The automation of production lines is accelerating due to labor shortages, but many visual inspections are still performed manually by humans," noted Takeuchi. "Through this collaboration, we look forward to strengthening our response to customer needs through MELSOFT VIXIO, supported by HACARUS' expertise in AI-based visual inspection, to address labor shortages in the manufacturing sector."

The Mitsubishi Electric and HACARUS partnership highlights the increasing trend of incorporating AI into industrial applications to overcome labor market constraints and enhance efficiency in manufacturing processes.
