Micron Technology's Gujarat plant to launch first phase in 2025

Micron Technology, a prominent player in global memory and data storage, announced on Thursday that the initial stage of its facility in Sanand, Gujarat, is set to commence operations in early 2025. The construction of the plant, undertaken in collaboration with Tata Projects, is already underway, with the hiring process in progress. Sanjay Mehrotra, the President and CEO of Micron Technology, shared this information during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

Mehrotra outlined that the first phase, encompassing 500,000 square feet of clean room space, is scheduled to be operational in early 2025. The company, based in the United States, had initially disclosed its investment plans during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States in June 2023, and construction activities commenced in September. Micron has committed to investing over USD 800 million in the project, which has an overall cost exceeding USD 2.75 billion.

The term "clean room" refers to a controlled environment that typically houses an Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) plant, ensuring minimal dust and vibration. Mehrotra stated that Micron plans to adjust its capacity in response to global demand and disclosed intentions to initiate the construction of the facility's second phase in the latter half of the current decade.
