Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra, for the development of two major Pumped Storage Projects with a total capacity of 4,000 MW. These projects include the Kamod Pumped Storage Project in Nandurbar District and the Ghosla Pumped Storage Project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District. This marks MEIL's first venture into pumped storage hydro projects under the 'Build-Operate-Maintain (BOM)' model.

The projects, requiring an investment of approximately Rs 211 billion, are expected to generate employment for around 2,500 people. MEIL plans to complete the Ghosla Pumped Storage Project in three and a half years, while the Kamod project is projected to be completed in five years.

These off-stream projects will offer a minimum of six hours of daily energy storage. Both will feature newly constructed Upper and Lower reservoirs (closed-loop systems), using water pumped during non-peak hours to generate power during periods of high demand. Water will be sourced from existing reservoirs for initial filling and will be replenished annually.

Pumped storage projects provide cost-effective energy storage, assist in grid management, frequency regulation, and integrate well with renewable energy sources.

The MoU signing was attended by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deepak Kapoor, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department. Representing MEIL were company President R.V.R. Kishore and associates Girish, Ravi Kiran, and Sameer Jha.

R.V.R. Kishore highlighted the significance of these projects, stating, "These initiatives will not only meet Maharashtra’s energy demands but also contribute to the state’s overall development. We are proud to support national progress by delivering power through the grid across India."
