L&T appoints Gopi Thangavel as Group CIO

With over 20 years of experience, Thangavel joins L&T from Reliance Industries, where he held key leadership roles for more than six years.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced the appointment of Gopi Thangavel as its new Group Chief Information Officer (CIO). In his new role, Thangavel will lead the company's digital transformation strategy, focusing on enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening cybersecurity, and aligning digital initiatives with L&T’s overall business objectives.
With over 20 years of experience, Thangavel joins L&T from Reliance Industries, where he held key leadership roles for more than six years. As Vice President and Senior VP at Reliance, he oversaw enterprise infrastructure management across multiple sectors, including hydrocarbons, petrochemicals, Jio, retail, e-commerce, life sciences, media, education, healthcare, and petro-retail, while supporting new acquisitions.
Thangavel brings extensive expertise in IT management, infrastructure, application development, operations, cybersecurity, risk management, project management, and service delivery. His diverse experience spans multiple industries, including manufacturing, retail, logistics, banking, ITeS/BPO, and telecommunications.
Reflecting on his time at Reliance, Thangavel shared a heartfelt farewell message on LinkedIn. "It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially after working with such incredible people. I am deeply grateful to Anish Shah, Jyotindra Thacker, and Kiran Thomas for their kind words and support during my farewell. It was one of the most memorable moments of my journey, filled with reflection on achievements and memories I will always cherish," he wrote.
Before his tenure at Reliance, Thangavel held senior roles at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) as Director and Wipro Ltd. as Head of Technologies. At L&T, he is expected to play a pivotal role in driving innovation and digital integration across the company's various business verticals.
