LOHUM, a prominent player in the energy transition and battery materials sector, has entered into a strategic partnership with Log9, an innovative Advanced EV battery technology company, to tackle the growing concern of sustainable battery disposal within the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
This collaboration is geared towards ensuring transparency and accountability regarding the residual value of lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, it aims to extend the lifespan of Log9's annual production of 250 MWh LTO EV batteries beyond their initial usage by repurposing them for renewable energy storage applications.
Compliant with India's Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR 2022), LOHUM will assist Log9 in meeting its material recovery targets for LTO batteries. A key component of this collaboration is LOHUM's DETX?, an innovative battery asset trading platform. DETX? provides in-depth insights into battery material trade, enabling Log9 to reduce emissions from their LTO batteries and enhance overall profitability throughout the battery lifecycle.
One of the unique approaches adopted by Log9 is the introduction of chemistry-based financing in EVs, focusing on the financial metrics specific to chemistries like LTO. This approach has paved the way for a complete circular economy of lithium-ion batteries, fostering partnerships with entities such as LOHUM.
Vinay Iyer, VP - Finance at Log9, highlighted the company's practice of battery tokenization, ensuring that all batteries repurposed for secondary usage possess a digital usage data ledger. This ledger provides recyclers with precise predictions of State of Health (SOH) for their input materials.
Log9's LTO batteries, the result of extensive research and development, offer numerous advantages, including an extended cycle life, rapid charging capabilities, and enhanced thermal stability compared to traditional batteries. Pankaj Sharma, Co-founder & Director of Log9, expressed their alignment with India's Net Zero ambitions. Through the DETX platform, Log9 is dedicated to responsible recycling and repurposing of EV batteries, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability.
Rajat Verma, Founder & CEO of LOHUM, emphasised their eagerness to enhance the sustainability of Log9's LTO Li-ion battery technology. He asserted that this collaboration would pave the way for safer eMobility solutions in India, promoting environmentally friendly and safe alternatives for both EVs and stationary energy storage systems.
