LICO Materials and Sanvaru Technology join hands to recycle Lithium batteries

LICO Materials has formed a strategic partnership with Sanvaru Technology to tackle the challenges of recycling lithium-ion batteries and advance sustainable practices essential for the electric mobility sector.

Sanvaru Technology will play a key role in this initiative by supplying end-of-life lithium-ion batteries for recycling to LICO Materials. This collaboration is focused on closing the loop by recovering critical minerals and supplying them back to battery manufacturers. Given India’s reliance on imported critical minerals—such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, and copper—the partnership aims to support the country’s goal of energy independence and reduce import dependency.

LICO Materials operates a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishing plant in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, and is developing a new facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with a combined annual capacity of 4 GWh. Over the next three years, Sanvaru will contribute an additional 450 MWh capacity.

This partnership highlights both companies’ commitment to creating a circular economy for batteries, promoting responsible resource management, and supporting sustainable practices in the battery industry. It also aligns with the Indian government’s mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.

Gaurav Dolwani, Founder and CEO, LICO Materials, stated, "Our collaboration with Sanvaru Technology is a pivotal move towards our shared vision of a circular economy for batteries. By recycling and refurbishing end-of-life batteries, we not only contribute to the responsible use of critical materials but also address the growing need for sustainability in the battery industry."

A K Shukla, MD, Sanvaru Technology, added, "Partnering with LICO Materials reflects our dedication to environmental stewardship. By providing end-of-life batteries for recycling, we are helping create a closed-loop system that ensures responsible resource management and fosters a cleaner, greener future."
