K-RIDE invites bids for 306 coaches in Bengaluru suburban railway project

The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) has issued a call for financial bids in the procurement of 306 air-conditioned coaches resembling metro cars for the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP).

K-RIDE, a collaborative effort between the state and union governments, is overseeing the development of the 149-km BSRP spanning four corridors: Sampige, Mallige, Parijata, and Kanaka. Among the 306 coaches sought, 264 will serve passengers, while the remainder will be designated for maintenance and spare usage.

In January 2023, K-RIDE initiated the Requests for Qualification (RFQs) phase, encompassing the design, manufacturing, supply, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of trainsets. By May, the agency had received RFQs from Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), a Spanish company, as well as Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) BHEL and BEML.

The RFQ served as the initial technical stage, allowing only shortlisted bidders to advance to the second stage—Request for Proposal (RFP), also referred to as the financial bid. The RFP stage involves the submission of technical documents and a financial bid. K-RIDE has scheduled the opening of financial bids (RFP) for February 28, following the invitation on December 29.
