Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless-steel manufacturer,
has launched its first stainless steel fabrication unit at Washivali,
Patalganga, Mumbai, through its subsidiary Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited
(JSSL). The 400,000 sq ft facility will cater to the needs of the bridge sector
and focus on fabricating, among other critical components, various types of
girders. The unit was inaugurated by Tarun Khulbe, CEO and CFO, Jindal
Stainless, along with other members of the company’s senior leadership.
Developed with an initial investment of approximately Rs 1,250
million, this facility marks a major step forward for the company,
strengthening its position as a leading supplier of stainless-steel material
and fabrication solutions provider for India’s infrastructure sector. By
FY26-27, the unit is expected to achieve an annual fabrication capacity of
18,000 tonnes, up from an estimated 4,000 tonnes in the current financial year,
to meet the growing demand for sustainable, high-quality bridge infrastructure.
The unit will directly create over 250 jobs, benefit more than 150 families
indirectly, and serve as a centre for skill development, equipping India’s
workforce for the infrastructure of tomorrow.
“This fabrication unit represents another step in our
efforts to provide integrated solutions for customers. Bridges are critical
connectors, linking people, businesses, and economic activity across the
nation. With this unit, our aim is to implement stronger end-to-end quality
management, ensuring that these vital structures are built to the highest
standards and supporting India’s broader infrastructure growth,” said Abhyuday
Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless.
“Developing a trained fabricator ecosystem has long been a
challenge in fully translating the excellence of sustainable stainless steel
material into reliable, high-quality fabrications. With the launch of this
facility, we are bridging that gap, by bringing together material excellence,
skilled fabrication, and streamlined processes to deliver timely and superior
infrastructure solutions,” stated Tarun Khulbe, CEO and CFO, Jindal Stainless.
Jindal Stainless has long been a trusted partner in supplying stainless steel for some of the nation’s landmark infrastructure projects. Unlike carbon steel, which is prone to corrosion and has caused structural failures in urban bridges, stainless steel provides a lifespan of over 100 years with minimal maintenance, offering safer, corrosion-free, and more sustainable alternative. The launch of this new fabrication unit builds further on this commitment. It marks a decisive step forward for the company, which, in addition to producing high-quality stainless steel, will now also directly fabricate critical bridge components—such as girders, arches, nuts and bolts, handles, and other structural parts—providing end-to-end services to infrastructure developers.
The company plans to expand its fabrication facility to
other regions in India. Aligned with Jindal Stainless’ ESG goals, the Mumbai
fabrication unit will also be solar power enabled in its next phase, further
enhancing sustainability.
Founded in 1970, the company continues to be inspired by a
vision for innovation and enriching lives and is committed to social
responsibility. Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless-steel manufacturer,
recorded an annual turnover of Rs 401,820 million (USD 4.75 billion) in FY25.
The company is ramping up its facilities to reach 4.2 million tonnes of annual
melt capacity in FY27.
It has 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities
in India and abroad, including in Spain and Indonesia, and a worldwide network
in 12 countries, as of March 2025. In India, it has 10 sales offices and 6
service centres, as of March 2025. The company’s product range includes
stainless steel slabs, blooms, coils, plates, sheets, precision strips, wire
rods, rebars, blade steel, and coin blanks.
Jindal Stainless relies on its integrated operations to
enhance its cost competitiveness and operational efficiency. It remains focused
on a greener and sustainable future.
The company manufactures stainless steel using an electric
arc furnace, a process that significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and
allows for recyclability of scrap without compromising on quality.
