Indian Army Signs Contract for BvS10 Sindhu Vehicles

The Indian Army has signed a contract for the procurement of BvS10 Sindhu vehicles from Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), in collaboration with BAE Systems. L&T will produce the BvS10 Sindhu at its Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, with technical and design support from BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original manufacturer of the BvS10 platform. This contract includes an integrated logistics support package for deployment, maintenance, and life-cycle sustainment.

The BvS10 Sindhu is an upgraded variant of the proven BvS10 articulated all-terrain vehicle, designed for India's diverse terrain, including high altitude, desert, marshland, and amphibious environments. The vehicle has successfully completed demanding trials, proving its exceptional performance in both sea-level and high-altitude regions. The upgraded vehicle will enhance the Indian Army's operational, strategic, and tactical mobility, supporting India's military modernisation efforts.

This collaboration highlights L&T and BAE Systems' role in advancing India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing, ensuring enhanced resilience and supply security. The BvS10’s mobility across varied terrains, including snow, ice, sand, and steep mountains, alongside its amphibious capabilities, enables it to perform critical missions in challenging environments. The vehicle's modular design can be reconfigured for personnel transport, command and control, ambulance services, vehicle repair, and logistics support, among other roles.

The BvS10 is currently in service with multiple countries, including Austria, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, and is also on order for the German Army.
