The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has unveiled a detailed research and development plan for the National Green Hydrogen Mission, allocating Rs 400 crore to establish a robust research ecosystem for the commercialisation of green hydrogen.
This roadmap places a significant emphasis on advancing materials, technologies, and infrastructure to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and affordability of green hydrogen production, storage, and transportation.
The announcement was made during an event jointly organised by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, on the occasion of World Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day.
In a video message, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, expressed the commitment to hydrogen research, development, and deployment, envisioning hydrogen as a fundamental element in our sustainable future.
Prof Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, stressed the focus on mission-oriented projects, expecting tangible results within 2-3 years, with the allocated budget of Rs 400 crore.
Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary of New and Renewable Energy, highlighted India's timely entry into the green hydrogen sector and anticipated the country becoming a frontrunner. He emphasised that the R&D roadmap aims to position India as a global leader through cutting-edge research initiatives.
World Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, a globally recognised event, underscores hydrogen's potential as a clean energy source and the versatile technology of fuel cells. It serves as a testament to hydrogen's pivotal role in addressing challenges related to climate change, energy security, and environmental sustainability.
