India poised to become the global drone hub; Says EY-FICCI report

Experts agree that India can reduce global reliance on Chinese drones, particularly as developed economies adopt the China Plus One strategy.
India has the potential to become the global hub for drone manufacturing, according to a new EY-FICCI report titled Making India The Drone Hub of the World. The report forecasts that India’s drone and components industry could significantly boost the country’s manufacturing sector, reaching $23 billion by 2030. This growth would contribute to India's goal of achieving a $5 trillion economy.
"Drones offer immense potential, and India is leading the way in this revolution," said Pradeep Namdeo, Group CEO, Prakhar Software Solutions.
"Drones not only serve national defense and security needs but also have wide applications in agriculture and other sectors." Prakhar is a pioneering domestic drone manufacturer that has developed fully indigenous flight controllers, AI-based models, and 3D-printed components. The company has also created a geospatial intelligence system to identify threats around sensitive locations, as well as secure live-streaming tools with AI analytics to safeguard data during tactical operations.
Prakhar is playing a key role in advancing the Make in India initiative for drones and expanding their use beyond defense. Globally, drones are revolutionising the agriculture sector, with applications such as precision farming, crop monitoring, soil analysis, and irrigation management. The India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) highlights how drones can transform agriculture by improving efficiency and productivity.
Prakhar has partnered with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to promote drone use in agriculture, including drone spraying across 1,250+ acres. The company also conducted a pilot project on over 1,500 acres of land, educating farmers on the benefits of agri-drone technology.
Experts agree that India can reduce global reliance on Chinese drones, particularly as developed economies adopt the China Plus One strategy. Prakhar, a leader in drone technologies, has also developed indigenous Kamikaze drone-based anti-drone systems.
Furthermore, the company has provided drone skill training to over 10,000 youth and aims to create 5,000 employment opportunities for women in the drone sector by 2027. Its block-level drone centres act as hubs for drone services, training, and maintenance.
