India is more than ready to invest in next-gen manufacturing: Raman Bhatia

As a prominent manufacturer and supplier, Servotech Renewable Power System Limited delivers energy solutions with a strong emphasis on innovation and sustainability. In this interview with Rakesh Rao, Raman Bhatia, Founder & Managing Director, Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd, explores the journey of Indian renewable energy sector and Servotech’s evolution over the years.

In what ways is your company contributing to the solar energy sector?
At Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd, we are committed to driving the adoption of solar energy by offering innovative, reliable, and cost-effective green technology solutions. Our journey in the solar sector began with small steps, and today, we proudly stand as one of the key players in India’s clean energy sector.

We manufacture a wide range of solar products, including solar inverters, solar panels, solar lithium batteries, and other energy-efficient systems, all aligned with international quality standards. With state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, we support large-scale production to meet rising domestic demand and grow our global export presence.

Having successfully executed numerous government tenders and public-sector projects across India, we have established ourselves as a significant player in the Indian green-tech sector. Our affordable pricing and indigenous production further strengthen our contribution to the 'Make in India' initiative while helping consumers lower their carbon footprint.

What are the key challenges before solar panel manufacturers and how can India address them?
India’s solar manufacturing value chain has made commendable progress in recent years. However, challenges like dependency on imports, limited R&D, and underutilised production capacity still limit the sector’s global competitiveness.

At Servotech, we’re actively addressing these gaps by strengthening R&D and developing a robust domestic and global supply chain. As part of this mission, we’ve partnered with global experts like Errol Musk, renowned for his engineering and green tech insights, who is now Servotech’s global advisory member.

We believe that with strong policy backing and technological advancement, India can reduce its reliance on imports and emerge as a global solar manufacturing leader, driving both economic and environmental impact.

How prepared is the Indian industry to adapt new-age manufacturing capabilities?
I believe the Indian industry is more than ready to invest in R&D and next-gen manufacturing. While it’s true that global players are ahead, India is quickly catching up with strong intent and growing capabilities.

Early in my career, I realised that Indian consumers are willing to embrace new technologies, provided they see real value. This insight pushed us to strengthen our R&D efforts, enhance product quality, and optimize costs, ultimately delivering greater value to our customers. R&D has never been viewed as an expense but as an investment in innovation and growth.

Today, with increased capital availability, investor interest in green tech, and rising consumer demand, India has all the ingredients to lead in advanced manufacturing. We are not only prepared but also eager to drive the global transition through sustainable, homegrown innovation.

What must industry and government do in the next 3-5 years to ensure India becomes a true solar manufacturing powerhouse?
India is emerging as a strong alternative to China in the global solar supply chain. As an active player in the Indian solar industry, we’ve already begun investing in cost-reduction strategies while maintaining international quality standards to enhance our global competitiveness.

The ongoing US-China trade tensions present a significant opportunity for Indian manufacturers to expand into new markets. This is a moment to position India as a credible, reliable source for high-quality solar products globally.

To ensure long-term leadership, the government must focus on strengthening domestic supply chains, increasing R&D incentives, offering export subsidies, and fast-tracking infrastructure development. Consistent policy support, ease of doing business, and collaborative industry–government frameworks will be key to transforming India into a global solar manufacturing powerhouse over the next 3–5 years.

What are the growth plans for your company?
Our growth plans are all about moving forward with new ideas, staying eco-friendly, and growing in the green tech sector. We’re working hard to strengthen our spot as a trusted brand in the green tech industry to offer renewable energy solutions by expanding our product portfolio while simultaneously reaching more people.

We're focused on expanding our EV charging infrastructure through strategic partnerships, public-sector collaborations, and our dedicated subsidiary, Incharz. We’re also putting efforts into increasing our exports and reaching new markets across the globe.

In the coming years, our goal is to solarise more households in both cities and villages, support the government’s clean energy goals, and proudly contribute to the ‘Make in India’ movement. Our aim is to build future-ready energy solutions that are smart, reliable, and affordable for everyone.
