Hyundai Motor India expands production capacity with Talegaon plant acquisition

Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) has successfully acquired and taken possession of designated assets at General Motors India's Talegaon Plant in Maharashtra, following the fulfilment of specific conditions and the receipt of regulatory approvals from relevant government authorities and stakeholders. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Hyundai Motor India and the Government of Maharashtra marks a significant step in expanding the cumulative production capacity to 1 million annual units.

With a commitment to invest Rs 6,000 crore in Maharashtra, Un Soo Kim, MD & CEO of HMIL, emphasised the importance of India as a key market. The company aims to deliver benchmark products and technologies to Indian customers and views the Talegaon manufacturing plant as a crucial catalyst in achieving the milestone of 1 million annual production capacity.

The acquisition of the Talegaon plant aligns with HMIL's strategy to support the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' mission, positioning India as a hub for advanced smart mobility solutions with a global manufacturing focus. Manufacturing operations are set to commence in Talegaon in 2025, with plans to expand the annual production capacity from the existing 130,000 units. Phased investments will be made to upgrade infrastructure and manufacturing equipment to meet Hyundai's global operating and manufacturing standards.
This strategic investment aims to ensure manufacturing excellence and aligns with the recent launch of Hyundai Motor's highly anticipated model, the new Hyundai CRETA. The CRETA boasts cutting-edge technology, segment-defining safety features, exhilarating performance, and comfort and convenience features. Noteworthy features include an advanced Level 2 ADAS safety suite, a powerful 1.5L Turbo GDi engine, a distinctive front profile with signature horizon LED positioning lamp and DRLs, and a redesigned rear profile with signature connected LED tail lamps, new tailgate, bumpers, skid plate design, and aerodynamic spoiler.

The vehicle retains its unmistakable silhouette from the side while enhancing the overall look with redesigned sharper and sportier diamond-cut alloy wheels. The premium interior of the new Hyundai CRETA complements its commanding exterior design, featuring cockpit-inspired interiors with seamlessly integrated curvilinear screens, including a 26.03 cm infotainment screen and an advanced 26.03 cm multi-display digital cluster.
