Havells India Limited, a US$ 1.2 billion enterprise and a leading player in the Lighting & Fixtures segment, electrical and power equipment sector in India, is entering the Home Appliances business to cater to the Rs.5200 crore domestic appliance market. The launch was announced at a glittering event in New Delhi in the presence of bollywood actress,Soha Ali Khan and an entertaining show by Sophie Choudry. Also present were over 500 dealers of Havells from across the country.

Havells targets Rs.500 crore of business from the home appliances business in the next 3-4 years. The product categories from Havells include food preparation, garment care, home comfort, cooking and brewing. Havells will invest Rs.70-Rs.80 crore in marketing, research and development of its small appliances range over the next two to three years.

Mr Anil Gupta, JMD, Havells India Ltd, said, "We are very excited to enter into this fast growing domestic home appliance market wherein we see a huge business opportunity. We would leverage our strong brand name in the lighting segment to have a sizeable share of the domestic appliances market."

The range includes juicers, mixer grinders, hand blenders, choppers, steam & dry irons, pop-up toasters, sandwich, room heaters, electric cookers, induction cookers and kettles. All products are designed and manufactured with world class quality, durability and performance. In addition, the unique feature about this range is, all the products are pro hygiene, with a technology to ensure high degree of cleanliness and hygiene with ease. Havells products would initially be available in top forty cities through some 4,000 outlets retailing electrical goods along with 100 exclusive Havells Galaxy stores.

The company also plans to export its products to Latin America and Thailand using the distribution channel of Sylvania, which it bought in early 2007. This acquisition had catapulted Havells into the top league of lighting equipment makers, behind Philips, Osram and GE.
