While international trade plays a central role in the global economy, it also brings challenges such as trade imbalances and protectionism. Hannover Messe fosters global dialog on these issues.
Hannover Messe 2024 promotes international trade and investment

The 2024 edition of Hannover Messe - hosted from April 22-26, 2024 in Hannover, Germany – will have the theme of “Energizing a Sustainable Industry”. Norway is Partner Country for Hannover Messe 2024.

A balanced, transparent policy is crucial in order to make the most of the benefits of international trade. Visitors to Hannover Messe discover how this can work at the exhibition area “International Trade & Investment”, where countries and regions present their business opportunities and discuss with economic development organisations, foreign direct investors and public private partnerships trade and investment opportunities as well as market entry, settlement promotion and international cooperation.

“The world currently faces many challenges, including supply chain disruptions, climate change, economic stagnation and a shortage of skilled workers. However, it is precisely at this time that companies should seize the opportunities for international dialog, cooperation and investment. Our ‘International Trade & Investment’ platform serves precisely this purpose. Every year, thousands of participants learn about the latest topics and developments in global trade,” stated Basilios Triantafillos, Global Director Trade Fair and Product Management at Hannover Messe.

“Despite challenges, international trade remains an important pillar of the German economy. According to the latest DIHK economic survey, the export industry is developing slightly better undeterred by the overall gloomy mood. However, the DIHK surveys also show that increased energy prices, the high tax and duty burden as well as bureaucratic reporting obligations put a strain on German companies’ foreign business. Trade barriers and protectionism are additional challenges in many target markets,” said Melanie Vogelbach, Managing Director International Economic Policy at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK). “At Hannover Messe, the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad provides visitors with first-hand advice and practical support to help them discover new business opportunities abroad.”

The daily program at the Trade & Invest Stage in Hall 4 includes keynote speeches, panel discussions and presentations on topics such as digitalization, diversification, mergers and acquisitions, and trade policy. On 22 April, for example, the session “Partnerships with the Global South” takes a close look at the potential of emerging markets.

On 25 April, the stage program focuses on the MENA and Southeast Asia regions. Malaysia, for example, presents the session “Boundless Opportunities for High-Tech, Digital Economy, Blockchain & H2”. Entrepreneurs, institutions and authorities will present various opportunities for trading partners and investors in Malaysia.

Exhibiting organizations include Agence Marocaine – AMDIE Morocco, AHP International (Germany), AMSDE – Asociación Mexicana de Secretarios de Desarrollo Económico (Mexico), CIIPA – China International Investment Promotion Agency (Germany), Confederação Nacional da Indústria (Brazil), DEinternational (Egypt), DIHK – German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Transatlantic Business & Investment Council (North America).

With the lead theme “Energizing a Sustainable Industry”, Hannover Messe 2024 will bring together exhibiting companies from mechanical and electrical engineering, the digital industry and the energy sector to present solutions for the future of manufacturing and energy supply. Leading topics include smart manufacturing, energy for industry, artificial intelligence and machine learning, carbon-neutral production, and hydrogen and fuel cells.
