Greaves Cotton Limited, one of India's leading engineering companies, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art greenfield plant at Shendra in Aurangabad. Mr Karan Thapar, Chairman, Greaves Cotton Ltd inaugurated the plant in the presence of a large gathering of employees.

The company has made an initial investment of over Rs 50 crore for the new plant. It will have an initial capacity to manufacture 87,000 engines per annum, which will be eventually scaled up to meet the demand. This unit will manufacture both single and twin cylinder engines, meeting all contemporary emission norms, which will be primarily supplied to existing as well as new three and four wheeled small commercial vehicles manufacturers. Besides, these engines can also be used in generating sets, pumping sets, marine and host of other industrial and agricultural applications.

Greaves Cotton is among the world's largest manufacturers of single cylinder diesel engines. With the inauguration of the new plant, the Company's total production capacity of light engines will go up to more than 375000 per annum. Currently, over 80% of the diesel three wheelers in India are powered by Greaves engines and more than 2 million Greaves engines are already in the market powering small 3 and 4 wheeled commercial vehicles.
