Foxconn to establish energy storage unit in India

Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant, is set to establish a battery energy storage system (BESS) unit in India, according to Young Liu, Chairman, Foxconn. The company, which has already launched its first battery manufacturing plant in Taiwan, is now focusing on expanding its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

Liu noted that Foxconn’s information and communication technology segment has recently begun operations in India. The company is also keen to bring its ‘3+3 strategy’ to the country. This strategy focuses on three key industries—electric vehicles, digital health, and robotics—each poised for significant growth.

Liu revealed that discussions are underway with Tamil Nadu's industries minister about potential collaboration on the BESS project in the state. Foxconn’s battery storage business, particularly in the EV sector, enables energy storage from renewable sources such as solar and wind. The company's first BESS unit, which supports e-Buses, has already been established in Taiwan.
