Danfoss bets big on Cold Chain Infrastructure in India

Mumbai 19 September, 2013: According to the National Horticulture Board, the per capita availability of fruits and vegetables in India is quite low despite it being the largest producer of fruits and second largest producer of vegetables in the world. This may indicate a continued lack of logistics and storage capacity; despite the previous decades' focus on building stronger infrastructure, especially cold storages facilities. While the cold chain industry is nascent in the country, the opportunity for growth is bright by adopting energy efficient applications.

Presenting at the Cold Chain India Show 2013, Danfoss displayed an array of energy efficient solutions that find applications across the Cold Chain spectrum. Its latest offering- the ADAP-KOOL? range of Control Systems for retail is able to reduce energy consumption by up to 33% in refrigeration systems alone. And the potential savings are even bigger if one chooses to control additional utilities like lighting and HVAC. Around the world, more than 50,000 ADAP-KOOL? supermarket installations already operate to improve food quality and benefit energy consumption.

Recently launched by the Commercial Compressors business at Danfoss OptymaTM Slim Pack, the new condensing unit designed to fit into a light and compact housing, has already found great acceptance in the milk capital of India-Gujarat with many milk societies installing these applications in their plants to lower their total life cycle costs. Additionally the Refrigeration VLT Drive cuts the external component count, integrates easily into existing system and makes motors energy efficient thereby improving the energy balance of the overall refrigeration system and reducing its environmental footprint.

Housing the world's first two Stage Ammonia Cooling Unit at its Refrigeration Training Centre in Chennai, Danfoss takes educating stakeholders on energy efficiency and benefits of natural refrigerants, seriously. The Centre focuses on facilitating knowledge transfer about Danfoss technologies, its applications and value added services to customers and partners who can register themselves for the e-learning courses or even visit the Centre to gain hands-on experience in handling these new to world technologies and feel enabled to make informed decisions within their businesses that can help lower the GWP of our country.
