German medical technology and lens company Carl Zeiss, valued at $10 billion, is set to establish one of its largest lens factories in Bengaluru, India. The company is investing Rs 25 billion in the new facility, which will have five times the production capacity of its existing plant in a different location within Bengaluru. Additionally, Carl Zeiss is expanding its research and development activities in India, utilising the country to develop global solutions, according to Miguel G Diaz, Managing Director, Carl Zeiss India, in an interview with the source.

"India is a very attractive business destination and a great place for investments. The economy is growing fast, but we face the challenge of finding more skilled manpower," Diaz said. He also mentioned plans to double the workforce in India over the next two-and-a-half years, up from the current 2,200 employees.

Carl Zeiss reported Rs 18 billion in business from India last year. Beyond traditional vision care lenses, the company provides industrial quality solutions (IQS) and research microscopy products. Its portfolio also includes ophthalmic devices, cinema, and photo lenses. The company's Centre of Application Research India supports medical practitioners and surgeons globally with solutions developed in India. Another center focuses on Vision Technology Services.

Dhaval Radia, CFO, Carl Zeiss India, stated that mass-produced spectacle lenses from India are sold both domestically and globally. The Indian manufacturing unit serves markets including the US, Germany, South Korea, China, Australia, Philippines, Russia, UAE, and Brazil.
