Canon unveils 2nm semiconductor tech, rivals Dutch giant ASML

Canon, the renowned Japanese company celebrated for its printers and cameras, unveiled its groundbreaking solution. This innovative technology, as reported by Cointelegraph, is poised to revolutionise the production of cutting-edge semiconductor components.

According to insights, Canon introduced a cutting-edge "nanoimprint lithography" system, marking a strategic move to compete with ASML, a leading Dutch firm specialising in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines. ASML's machines are instrumental in producing advanced chips, including those powering the latest Apple iPhones.

Named FPA-1200NZ2C, Canon's system has the remarkable capability to manufacture semiconductors using a 5nm process, scaling down to an unprecedented 2nm. This surpasses the capabilities of Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which utilise a 3nm semiconductor chip, as highlighted by Cointelegraph.

Additionally, Cointelegraph reported that the Dutch government has restricted the export of its EUV lithography machines to China, where no units have been shipped, adding a geopolitical dimension to the technological advancements in the semiconductor industry.
