A BrahMos missile manufacturing facility, developed with an investment of Rs 3 billion, will be inaugurated in Lucknow on May 11. Constructed under the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, the plant was completed in just 3.5 years, according to a government release.

Shrihari Pratap Shahi, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) said, that the facility was established on 80 hectares of land provided free of cost by the UP government in December 2021. It is expected to generate employment for around 500 engineers and technicians, along with thousands of indirect jobs for skilled and semi-skilled workers.

The BrahMos missile is produced by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia. The inauguration comes at a time of heightened military tensions with Pakistan, marked by cross-border shelling and counter-terror operations.

Further cementing UP’s position as a growing defence manufacturing hub, the state has allocated 117.35 hectares of land to 12 other defence firms. These projects under the corridor are expected to create over 3,000 jobs in the region.
