Mumbai, January 3, 2017: Birla Carbon, the largest manufacturer and supplier of high quality carbon black, celebrates 75 years of the innovation and installation of the first industrial electron microscope in 1941. 2016 marked the completion of this historic milestone signifying Birla Carbon’s commitment and dedication towards establishing best practices to drive innovation, one of the pillars of the Company’s business vision.
Commenting on the historic milestone, Dale Clark, Chief Technology Officer, Birla Carbon, “As a leading global carbon black company, Birla Carbon is committed to driving innovations that fulfil the needs of the customers and communities. The Company has invested in world-class R&D centres that focus on continual enhancement of carbon black technology by combining process modelling, microscopy and product innovation.†He further added, “Birla Carbon will continue to invest in technology to ensure we are meeting the challenging needs of our customers in the most sustainable way.â€Â
Sharing his thoughts over the landmark, Dr Ranjan Ghosal, Senior Vice President, Global Research & Analytical Technology, Birla Carbon said, “We constantly strive to improve our efficiency through innovation and shared expertise. In addition to innovation, sustainability is also a critical aspect of Birla Carbon’s business vision. The sustainability approach is driven by the company’s Sustainable Operational Excellence (SOE) strategy which influences all aspects of the business by building strong governance to responsible product management, customer and supplier partnership, health and safety of the employees and community engagement.
Birla Carbon has taken a proactive approach towards carbon stewardship, and aims to work towards improving operating standards as well as manufacture carbon black as efficiently as possible.
Birla Carbon’s continuous investment in R&D has served as a differentiator for the Company over the decades, and has given tremendous insight into the structure-property relationships of carbon black and related materials. Over the last 75 years, the R&D program has seen the utilization of 14 generations of electron microscopes, to characterize and help develop unique grades of carbon black.
The annual event will be held in three cities - at Tokyo (Japan) on 4 July 2024, Bengaluru (India) on 10-11 July 2024, and Singapore on 1 August 2024.
