BASF increases production capacity of compounding plants in India

BASF India Limited is set to boost the production capacity of its Ultramid® polyamide (PA) and Ultradur® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) compounding plant located in Panoli, Gujarat, and Thane, Maharashtra. Additionally, the company inaugurated its Polyurethane Technical Development Centre India in Mumbai on May 28, aimed at fostering market development for polyurethane applications across various industries including transportation, construction, footwear, appliances, and furniture.

“The capacity expansion of Ultramid and Ultradur in Panoli and Thane, as well as the inauguration of the Centre shows our commitment to enhancing local production and capabilities. With this Made-in-India-for-India strategy, we increase our speed-to-market and stay close to our customers, enabling us to shorten our delivery time in terms of products, solutions and technical service,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President- Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.

The capacity expansion exceeds 40% in both Panoli and Thane. BASF is set to meet the rising market demand for high-performance material solutions in India. The increased capacity is expected to become available in the second half of 2025.

The Polyurethane Technical Development Centre boasts state-of-the-art applications equipment within a spacious area of approximately 2,000 square meters. It offers enhanced customer support services, encompassing troubleshooting, customised formulations, line trials, and customer training sessions. Leveraging the expertise and synergies within BASF's global polyurethane network, the centre aims to provide rapid and advanced technical services to customers, fostering innovation alongside the Creation Centre situated at BASF's Innovation Campus in Mumbai.
