Apple supplier Jabil to invest Rs 20 billion in Trichy manufacturing plant

Jabil, a global supplier for companies like Apple, Cisco, and HP, is set to invest Rs 20 billion in establishing a new electronics manufacturing facility in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. This investment is expected to create approximately 5,000 jobs in the region, according to a statement from the state government.

The agreement was formalised on September 10 during Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s visit to the US, where he met with investors. Stalin confirmed the investment in a post on X, emphasising that this new facility will contribute to the creation of a major electronics manufacturing cluster in Trichy.

With Jabil's investment, Tamil Nadu now hosts all major Apple suppliers, including Foxconn, Pegatron, Tata Electronics, and Jabil, positioning the state as a key hub for electronics manufacturing.

Additionally, Rockwell Automation is expanding its operations in Tamil Nadu with a Rs 6.66 billion investment in Kanchipuram, which will generate 365 jobs. The Tamil Nadu government also signed an MoU with Autodesk to enhance youth skills and support MSMEs and startups.

This follows the state's recent agreements with Nokia, PayPal, Applied Materials, and others. Nokia is set to establish an R&D center in Siruseri, Chengalpattu, with a Rs 4.5 billion investment, generating 100 jobs.
