Airbus expands MII commitment with Tata, Mahindra agreements at Wings India 2024

Aligning with its commitment to 'Make in India,' Airbus has inked agreements with Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) and Mahindra Aerospace Structures (MASPL) for the procurement of commercial aircraft components at Wings India 2024. Under these contracts, TASL and Mahindra Aerostructures will produce metallic detail parts, components, and assemblies for Airbus' A320neo, A330neo, and A350 programs. These collaborations expand Airbus' engagement with over 100 Indian suppliers contributing to various Airbus programs in components, engineering, and digital services.

Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, emphasised Airbus' focus on placing 'Make in India' at the forefront of its strategy, aiming not only to support the growth of the Indian commercial fleet but also to enhance the overall aerospace ecosystem by developing manufacturing and engineering capabilities in collaboration with Indian partners. Tata Advanced Systems and Mahindra Aerostructures already play crucial roles in Airbus' aircraft programs, and the new contracts further strengthen this cooperation.

India holds strategic importance for Airbus as a resource hub where the company is expanding its industrial presence, encompassing aircraft assembly, component manufacturing, engineering design and development, MRO support, pilot and maintenance training, and academic collaborations to nurture human capital.

Components and technologies manufactured in India are integral to every Airbus commercial aircraft, including the A220 Escape Hatch Door and the Flap Track Beams for the A320neo and A330neo aircraft. With an annual procurement value of approximately US$750 million, these latest contracts will significantly contribute to Airbus' sourcing of components and services.

Airbus continues to foster the growth of the broader Indian aerospace ecosystem, exemplified by the establishment of a Final Assembly Line for the C295 military aircraft in Vadodara through an industrial contract with TASL. Additionally, Airbus is actively involved in training commercial pilots and maintenance crews, reflecting its comprehensive commitment to the Indian aviation landscape.
