Adani Wind, a division of Adani New Industries (ANIL) specialising in wind energy solutions, has ambitious plans for expansion. A senior company official informed that they intend to invest Rs 2,000 crore in establishing a 5 GW (gigawatt) capacity within the next five years. Following this, their aim is to double this capacity to 10 GW by 2030.
Milind Kulkarni, the Chief Operating Officer of Adani Wind, explained the phased expansion strategy. Currently, the company operates at a capacity of 1.5 GW, producing 300 wind turbine generators. Over the next five years, they plan to ramp up their production to 5 GW annually. Subsequently, within the following two years, they intend to commission 10 GW annually.
In a significant milestone, Adani Wind's 5.2 MW wind turbine generator (WTG) ? India's largest ? has been included in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM) released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. This listing signifies that the 5.2 MW WTG is now commercially available. The WTG has received type certification from WindGuard GmbH in Germany, enabling the company to commence series production for global markets. Adani Wind has invested Rs 300 crore in establishing the WTG manufacturing facility in Mundra, Gujarat.
The global demand for larger turbine sizes, specifically 5X and higher, are on the rise. Adani Wind aims to tap into this market trend, focusing on countries such as the USA, Brazil, MENASA (Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia), Sri Lanka, Australia, and India. These markets offer an annual demand ranging from 1 GW to 12 GW. Despite the presence of established players in the international WTG manufacturing segment, there is a shortage of turbines with higher ratings and capacities.
Kulkarni emphasised the shift in demand toward higher capacity turbines both internationally and in India. With their 5.2 MW model, Adani Wind aims to provide a product that meets international standards and stays ahead of the competition. To further enhance their technological capabilities, the company plans to establish a technology centre in Germany within the next six months. This center will house a specialised team focused on developing comprehensive wind energy solutions, creating new products, and incorporating global trends in the wind energy sector.
Additionally, Adani Wind is optimistic about the potential of wind power project repowering, aligning with the government's policy direction in this segment. Their forward-looking approach positions them as a key player in the evolving landscape of wind energy solutions.
