Government’s initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, etc are like to increase demand for test and measurement (T&M) equipment. Within T&M, handheld instruments are gaining popularity in network maintenance, academic institutes and audit applications. Handheld test and measurement solution have own unique value proposition against benchtop T&M, says Madhukar Tripathi, Senior Manager (Sales & Marketing), Anritsu India Pvt Ltd. In this interview, he discusses trends in the T&M industry.

 

How are you supporting the growth of manufacturing industry in the country? 

Anritsu is known to its best quality product to suit production environment supporting 24x7 production testing.  Anritsu new Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) model MS9740B is launched for 5G active optical devices R&D and production measurement test.  

 

Universal Wireless Test Set model MT8870A is other mobile handset/ terminal test solution in production environment. The Universal Wireless Test Set MT8870A has been specifically designed for the high volume manufacturing test of cellular and connectivity wireless systems supporting 5G NR sub-6GHz, LTE, NB-IoT, Cat-M, V2X, WLAN and Bluetooth etc. An MT8870A instrument mainframe can contain up to four TRX Test Modules MU887000A/01A each capable of independent control by an external PC. Each module has an integrated Vector Signal Generator and Vector Signal Analyzer to perform both transmitter and receiver RF tests. The MT8870A with the MU887000A/01A test module can be controlled by an external PC.

 

Are you seeing an increasein traction for your productsin India?

Yes we see significant demand of Anritsu products in India. This is due to product quality, availability of time to market solution, cost competitive, and better post-sales support. Many old Anritsu instruments are still working with same accuracy and users like them much.

 

Why is the demand for hand-held (mobile) test and measurement (T&M) instrument growing more strongly than stationary T&M instrument?

Technological development in electronic components made it easy to boost handheld test and measurement. Anritsu introduced handheld T&M concept. Site Master is in 11th generation today which is industry standard for cable antenna measurement. VNA Master MS2038C is other handheld tool for VNA and spectrum in single unit while S820E is Microwave Site Master for high frequency applications. 

 

Handheld test and measurement solution have own unique value proposition against benchtop T&M. They are too good for field usage and lab use. Most handheld instrument is battery operated and cost efficient as compare to benchtop instruments. Spectrum Master MS2712/13E allows users to move in field for interference testing and other spectrum measurement.Handheld instruments are popular in network maintenance, academic institutes and audit applications.

 

What are the emerging trends in T&M equipment industry? How are you tapping these trends?

Test and measurement industry follows technological advancement path. Anritsu works closely with innovators and industry leaders to provide them latest state-of-the-art test and measurement solution for current or future technologies like 5G or connected car or IoT. A suitable T&M solution helps them to achieve time to market & establish product launch in market. Field Master Pro MS2090A is meant for 5GNR base station measurement and coverage mapping.

 

Do you see demand for T&M equipment improving in 2019-20 with the new Government now in place?

Government push for Make in India, Digital India will lead to T&M demand. Due to new technological prospects 5G and its application use cases, we see demand for T&M will increase in 2019-2020. Government project of broadband for all, upgradation of defense communication network, new labs in academic section will contribute T&M growth.
