TDK Corporation was selected as one of the 2017 Top 100 Global Innovators by Clarivate Analytics (formerly the intellectual property and science business of Thomson Reuters). This is the fourth time TDK has been named to the prestigious list.

 

To determine the world’s most innovative companies, Clarivate Analytics uses a methodology that analyses four primary criteria: overall patent volume (ie, a minimum of 100 patents must have been granted over the most recent five-year period), a successful patent-application-to-grant ratio, global patent protection of the portfolio, especially by Chinese, European, Japanese and US patent offices, and the number of citations by other organisations as evidence of patent influence.

 

TDK offers a comprehensive product portfolio spanning passive components such as capacitors, inductors and piezo and protection devices, as well as customised products including sensors, and energy devices. The company’s electronic solutions are used in a broad spectrum of applications including automotive and industrial electronics, as well as in communications technology and solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT).

 

TDK will continue to improve its innovative strength by offering solutions that leverage the company's broad spectrum of technologies. For example, some of TDK’s recent innovations include CeraCharge (the world's first solid-state rechargeable battery in SMD technology) and the world's first 7-axis motion and pressure sensor (which integrates a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer and MEMS barometric pressure sensor). Thanks to CeraCharge’s solid ceramic electrolyte, this tiny component cannot leak, burn or explode. It is destined for IoT applications such as wearables or systems for energy harvesting. The miniature 7-axis motion and pressure sensor enables ultra-precise position determination, for example, in outdoor navigation devices and wearables.
