City surveillance technology essential for safe Smart Cities

City surveillance is one of the biggest factors to ensure a safe smart city. Safety in a city ensures a conducive social and economic environment for citizens attracts investments for growth of the smart city.

Prasenjeet Bhattacharyya, of Panasonic provides video intelligence solutions, which is one of the main safety components for city surveillance. “Technology can be a key enabler in making our cities safe. Modernisation of police force and enabling them to have access to latest technologies will go a long way to increase the efficiency of the whole system in a smart city,” said Bhattacharya.

Our cities are vulnerable to multiple risks of terror attack, increasing crime rates, rising incidents of crime against women, and various communal clashes and social unrest. The government is aware of these factors and is investing heavily to create safe smart cities.
There are questions that require detailed scrutiny before we move towards creating smart cities.

Related technologies shall be showcased from 5th to 7th December at the security expo IFSEC in the national capital. Speaking about safe and smart cities, Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India said, “The Government of India recognises this vulnerability and has introduced strict regulations that promote the use of security, surveillance in the country. In a bid to make the country truly modern and secure, it has till date invested around Rs 48,000 crore for its 100 Smart Cities. Owing to these factors, it comes as no surprise that the electronic security market in India is expected to witness a tremendous growth with a projected CAGR of nearly 13 per cent over the next decade.”
