Carl Zeiss AG launches first global capability centre in India

German optical technology leader Carl Zeiss AG inaugurated its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. The new GCC will support cloud computing, cybersecurity, network operations, and software services for Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, the company’s medical technology division.

Currently employing 2,500 people in India, Carl Zeiss aims to expand its workforce to 5,000 over the next three years, with plans to double its highly skilled engineering team from 600 to 1,200 by 2027. The company’s new hires will focus on applied research, medical technology, software services, corporate IT—including cybersecurity—and digital transformation, with a view toward developing future-ready technologies and systems across the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China.

Carl Zeiss has steadily increased its presence in India over the past 25 years, now operating four manufacturing facilities—three in Bengaluru and one in Delhi. A new mega-manufacturing plant, set to consolidate capabilities from all current facilities, is under construction in Devanahalli with an investment of Rs 30 billion. This facility will produce various optical devices, including world-class spectacles and lenses, with commercial production expected to begin within eight months.

Dhaval Radia, CFO, Carl Zeiss India, projects India’s revenue to reach Rs 22 billion for the October-September 2025 fiscal year, marking a 19% year-on-year growth. Radia emphasised India’s role as a “strategically important market” for Carl Zeiss.
