The Tata Group aims to create 500,000 manufacturing jobs over the next five years, scaling its operations across sectors, according to N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of the conglomerate. In his New Year message to employees, he emphasized that India is entering a new manufacturing “golden age.”

Reflecting on the past year, Chandrasekaran described 2024 as “another unpredictable year,” marked by geopolitical instability and a slightly improved macroeconomic outlook. He pointed to military conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan, as well as humanitarian crises in Europe, West Asia, and Africa. He also mentioned citizen-led movements in Bangladesh and South Korea, highlighting their influence on global dynamics.

Discussing the impact of political developments on policies related to immigration, technology, and trade, Chandrasekaran noted that tariffs were once again a major concern for global leaders. He reiterated the group’s ambitious plan to generate half a million manufacturing jobs over the next half-decade, adding that the Tata Group currently employs over 1 million people.

Paying tribute to Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9, Chandrasekaran reflected on his enduring legacy. He described Ratan Tata as a figure of integrity and strategic vision, whose leadership profoundly influenced the group’s direction for a generation.

Chandrasekaran also outlined the group’s significant achievements in 2024, including groundbreaking ceremonies for more than seven new manufacturing plants. These projects include India’s first semiconductor fabrication plant and a C295 aircraft assembly line in Gujarat, along with a semiconductor OSAT plant in Assam and solar module production in Tamil Nadu.

The group’s progress in the retail sector and the merger of Air India and Vistara were also highlighted. Chandrasekaran emphasized that global uncertainty and rapid change demanded continued focus on execution, technology, customer satisfaction, and safety to maintain world-class performance.
