NEEPCO has been a trusted power generation company and operates the largest hydro power plant in the North Eastern region of India. The corporation was established in 1976 to plan, investigate, design, construct, generate, operate and maintain power stations in the North Eastern Region of India under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. NEEPCO is conferred with the Schedule A Miniratna Category-I CPSE status and operates 6 hydro, 3 thermal and 1 solar power stations with a combined installed capacity of 1347MW. NEEPCO has 2 power projects under development which include 110 MW Pare HEP and 600 MW Kameng HEP which is scheduled for commissioning within the financial year 2018-19. NEEPCO has signed an MoU with Ministry of Power, Government of India, defining the Performance Guarantee Parameters for 2018-19. A K Bhalla, Secretary, Power and A G West Kharkongor, CMD signed the MoU at Ministry in Delhi on April 26, 2018. NEEPCO has set a generation target of 8650 MU for the year 2018-19.

  • To harness the huge power potential of the country, from conventional and non-conventional sources, with minimal impact on the environment through a planned development of power generation projects by an integrated approach covering all aspects of investigation, planning, design construction, operation and maintenance of power projects, which in turn would effectively promote the development of the nation as a whole.
 
Objectives
For fulfillment of its mission, NEEPCO has set the following objectives commensurate with the aims, programmes and policies of the government evolved from time to time:
  • Development of hydro/thermal/renewable projects
  • To ensure optimum utilisation of installed capacity so as to achieve maximum generation, optimum machine availability and high plant load factor
  • To make full efforts in the realisation of outstanding dues from the beneficiaries in order to bring down the sundry debts.
  • Adoption of improved technologies for power generation
  • To improve the quality management system (ISO: 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001) ISO Certification as on 31.08.2016
  • Preparation of DPRs for new schemes with emphasis on minimizing geological surprises
 
Performance highlights
  • The present installed capacity of the corporation is 1347 MW comprising 815 MW in hydro, 527 MW in thermal and 5 MW in renewable (solar).
  • NEEPCO commissioned its first 5 MW MWp grid interactive solar PV power plant at Monarchak in Sepahijala district of Tripura on February 15, 2015.
  • Presently NEEPCO is implementing 2 hydro projects aggregating 710 MW viz. Kameng (600 MW), Pare (110 MW) in the NE Region which is scheduled for commissioning within the financial year 2018-19.
  • NEEPCO operates the largest hydro power plant in NE Region.
  • The only CPSU having hydro, thermal and solar  power stations in operation in the North-East Region.
  • Exposure to construction & operation of hydro projects in highly difficult and geo-technically sensitive terrain of NE Region.
  • NEEPCO is the only CPSU operating a hydel power station 
  • in Nagaland.

  • February, 2015.
  • 291 MW Assam Gas based Power Plant was declared as “Centre of Excellence” in the Year 2002 by the Ministry of Power, Government of India
  • 3x135 MW Ranganadi HEP was awarded ‘National Award’ for the year 2004-05 for meritorious performance in the power sector by the Ministry of Power, Government of India
  • Rajbhasha: Received 3RD Prize in the Years 1996-97, 1997-98 and 2000-01
