Manufacturers are adding all features in one instrument: Chandmal Goliya

Many countries in the world have imposed restrictions for import of the goods from China, thereby giving a boost to India. Many multinational companies are taking advantage of the favourable policies to set up electronic component industries in India, says Chandmal Goliya, Managing Director,  Kusam Electrical Industries Limited.

Kindly brief us about your company – In terms of types of products, solutions, technologies and services offered, manufacturing facilities, key end-user industries served, etc.
KUSAM-MECO is a 4 decade old company in the field of test and measuring instruments. KUSAM-MECO is the pioneer in India for the use of digital test and measuring instruments in India way back in 1996. At that time almost all instruments used were analog instruments. KUSAM-MECO was the first company in India to introduce hand held digital multimeters and clampmeters in India. We have in our range at present over 400 products, which is probably the largest range available from one source in India. Some of the multimeters and clampmeters are ‘UL’ listed which provide highest safety to the user and also to the instrument which is not available with any other brand including foreign brands in India. The major industries served by our company are the railways, steel plants, electrical utilities, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, cement industries, research laboratories, engineering colleges, ferrous and non-ferrous industries, petrochemical industries, etc.

How do you analyse the status of the Indian manufacturing sector in general and electrical and electronics (EandE) industry in particular?
The Indian manufacturing sector is going through a very important phase because there is good demand for products made in India. Many countries in the world have imposed restrictions for import of the goods from China, thereby giving a boost to the Indian industry. It is also applicable for electrical and electronic industry in India. Due to the favourable policy of Government of India for setting up electronic component industries in India, many multinational companies are taking advantage of the facilities provided by the Government and setting up Industries in India. In a few years India will be the largest hub in the world for components.

What is driving the demand for your products / solutions and services? What are the USPs of your products / technologies?
Due to the vast range of our products and the high quality, the demand for our products is increasing. We have in our range ‘UL’ listed multimeters and clampmeters which no other company in India provides for the same. Moreover we provide after sales service for all our products which also leads to increase in demand for our products.

What kind of opportunities are you looking to tap in the domestic and export markets?
With the emphasis by the Government of India on renewable energy and the increasing demand for electric vehicles, we are providing testing solutions for electric vehicle charging and also for testing of solar systems installed by the users. This market will grow tremendously in near future.

With electrification increasing across sectors, how it is helping your business to grow?
As electric supply reaches more and more customers, it needs greater facilities for transmission and distribution of electric energy. We provide all test instruments for transmission and distribution systems. Also with the railways increasing their lines to electrification, we provide many instruments for testing the railway systems for electrification of the lines.

How do you plan to tap end-user industries (like electrical and electronics, automotive / EVs, railways, defence, etc.) for future business growth?
We have a large distributor network across India which helps us to tap end user industries. Moreover we participate in many exhibitions all over India to promote our products. Also we advertise in many magazines related to electrical industry so that the customers are updated with the latest products available in the electrical industry.

Which other trends are visible in the industry?
In the test and measuring industry manufacturers are trying to put in more and more features in one instrument, so that the user does not have to carry many instruments for doing his work. More over the emphasis is more on meeting safety standards such as ‘UL’. By complying with ‘UL’ standards the instrument and the user are safe when using the instrument in the event of a fault in the circuit.

What are your plans for Elecrama 2025? – In term of launch of new product / technology / service (if yes, please elaborate), highlight of your booth / stall, products / technologies to be displayed, end-user industries targeted, expectation from Elecrama, message for visitors / industries on the eve of Elecrama, etc.
At Elecrama 2025, we are having a bigger booth than before and will display our new range of products. The new range includes new multimeters and clampmeters for application in solar, new multifunction power meters, new acoustic partial discharge instruments, a new range of power transducers, new range of process calibrators, new ‘UL’ listed multimeters and AC/DC power clampmeters, new range of thermal imagers, etc. We request all visitors to visit our stall to witness our latest range of products.

What are your growth plans for the company in the coming years ?
In the coming years KUSAM-MECO will add more and more test and measuring instruments to cater to the requirements of the users of these instruments. Our aim is to be a one stop solution for most test and measuring instruments requirements of the customers.
