India inc targets global electronics supply chain

Leading Indian manufacturing and industrial groups are collaborating with the government to tap into the expanding global electronics supply chain. Companies are focusing on producing components, sub-assemblies, and raw materials like chemicals and gases, leveraging their core strengths.

Around 24 major industrial players, including TII Murugappa Group, Pidilite, GMR Group, RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, and Bajaj Hindustan, have expressed interest in joining this ecosystem, according to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA). Discussions on requirements to integrate into the global supply chain were held at a recent ICEA meeting.

The interest surge follows the Tata Group’s success in assembling iPhones and supplying components for Apple, cementing its role in the tech giant’s supply chain. This progress underscores the potential for Indian firms to make significant inroads into the sector.
To meet India’s electronics manufacturing target of $500 billion by 2030, industry experts highlight the need for at least 100 additional companies to play pivotal roles in the supply chain. However, the mentioned companies have yet to respond to queries regarding their plans.
