The ThermoGrip BIONICS shrink chuck is designed with a “Balanced by Design” philosophy and enhanced through fine balancing, ensuring exceptionally silent running during operations. This results in improved surface quality, which directly contributes to longer tool life, superior surface finish and better maintenance of machining tolerances. Its stability and performance make it particularly suitable for high-performance cutting (HPC) and high-speed cutting (HSC) applications, while also providing protection to the machine spindle. The system is compatible with standard coil 1 for shrink diameters up to 25 mm, and supports shrink machine X parameters for both shrinking in and out processes.
Engineered using high temperature-resistant special steel, the ThermoGrip BIONICS ensures maximum form stability and extended service life. The material strength delivers high radial rigidity and minimal deflection, enabling high metal removal rates without compromising precision or reliability.
A key advantage of the system lies in its exceptional concentricity, achieving values of less than 0.003 mm with exact taper tolerances. Manufactured in a climate-controlled environment, this precision significantly reduces production costs by enabling smoother cutting processes. The result is a marked reduction in chatter marks, improved tool life, enhanced surface finish quality and prolonged maintenance of tight tolerances.
The innovative counterbore design further enhances usability by allowing tools to be inserted in a cold state. This enables a fully automated shrinking process, simplifying handling while improving operator safety. Additionally, the design contributes to a 15–20 per cent reduction in heat requirements during the heating of the shrink chuck, improving energy efficiency.
From a compatibility standpoint, the ThermoGrip BIONICS offers high flexibility, supporting all cylindrical shanks manufactured to DIN 1835 Forms A, B and E, as well as DIN 6535 Forms HA, HB and HE.
At the core of its design is a unique bionic optimisation inspired by natural growth structures. The bearing structure is modelled on the growth form of trees, ensuring uniform material distribution while avoiding notch stress. Just as a tree stabilises itself against wind through its root system, this principle has been applied to develop a shrink chuck with exceptionally high bending strength and load capacity.
