RUSAL, one of the world’s largest aluminium producers, considers India a key emerging market for its low-carbon aluminium products, particularly in the fast-growing electrical sector. The Russia-based producer aims to support India’s investments in modern energy infrastructure by supplying high-performance, sustainable materials.
To meet the specialised needs of India’s expanding electrical infrastructure, RUSAL has developed advanced, high-performance products. The Company has produced innovative aluminium-scandium wire rod offering superior strength and vibration resistance compared with technically pure aluminium, while maintaining high electrical conductivity.
This metal is designed as a lighter alternative to copper commonly used in busbars and electrical wiring. With these high-specification, low-carbon products, RUSAL is positioned to support India’s electrical grid modernisation and green energy projects.
Roman Borisov, Regional Sales Director at RUSAL, said, “India is fast emerging as a key hub for lowcarbon aluminium, and our role is to back that shift with technology, expertise and longterm partnerships. By offering a full range of valueadded products produced with over 99 per cent renewable energy, we aim to help our Indian customers strengthen their ESG performance and improve their competitiveness in global value chains. Together with our technical and sustainability support, this creates a strong foundation for a greener aluminium industry in India over the long term.”
Globally, the electrical sector accounted for 16.3 per cent of total aluminium consumption last year, driven by large-scale investments in energy infrastructure and clean energy, with global investments exceeding USD 2 trillion in 2024.
India remains a strategically important market for RUSAL. The Company’s advantage lies in its reliance on renewable energy sources, making it the world’s largest producer of low-carbon aluminium. More than 99 per cent of the electricity used in RUSAL’s metal production comes from renewable sources.
RUSAL markets its low-carbon aluminium under the ALLOW™ brand, which has a certified carbon footprint of less than 2.2 tonnes of carbon equivalent per tonne of metal—four to five times lower than the industry average.
RUSAL expands its low-carbon, high-performance aluminium offerings in India, supporting modern electrical infrastructure and advancing the country’s energy transition.
