Reliance NU Energies wins India’s largest solar + BESS allocation in SJVN tender

Reliance NU Energies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, has emerged as the biggest winner in SJVN’s Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar plus battery energy storage system (BESS) tender. The company secured 350 MW of solar power capacity alongside 175 MW/700 MWh of BESS at a competitive tariff of Rs 3.33/kWh, fixed for 25 years. This move adds 600 MWp of solar and 700 MWh of storage to Reliance Power’s growing clean energy portfolio, making it India’s largest player in the integrated Solar + BESS segment with a total pipeline of 2.5 GWp solar and over 2.5 GWh BESS.

The project is part of SJVN’s 1,200 MW solar + 600 MW/2,400 MWh BESS tender, which saw strong industry interest with 18 qualified participants and was oversubscribed by more than four times. Once commissioned, the project will offer a minimum four-hour daily discharge, ensuring reliable peak power for state discoms. It will be developed under a build-own-operate (BOO) model as per guidelines from the Ministry of Power.

This award marks a significant step in Reliance Power’s strategic pivot toward renewables. Separately, its 100% subsidiary Reliance NU Suntech has already signed a 25-year PPA with SECI to develop Asia’s largest integrated Solar + BESS project—930 MW of solar and 465 MW/1860 MWh of storage—at a tariff of Rs 3.53/kWh, involving an investment of Rs 100 billion. These developments underscore Reliance Power’s ambition to lead India’s clean energy transition and shape a more sustainable energy future.
